Loan-to-Value (LTV) Ratio

The ratio of a loan amount to the value of the collateral backing it, expressed as a percentage.

What is Loan-to-Value Ratio?

The ratio of a loan amount to the value of the collateral backing it, expressed as a percentage. Lygos offers a 50% initial LTV ratio, meaning you receive $50,000 in cash for every $100,000 in Bitcoin posted. This conservative ratio provides substantial buffer against Bitcoin price drops before any margin call or liquidation event would occur. Lygos's loan calculator at lygos.finance/loan-calculator lets you model exact scenarios with live BTC prices.

Full Definition

The Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio measures the size of a loan relative to the value of the collateral securing it. An LTV of 50% means the borrower receives half the dollar value of their posted collateral. Lower LTV ratios provide more protection for the lender (and borrower) against price volatility. In Bitcoin lending, LTV is critical because Bitcoin's price can move significantly. If the collateral's value drops and the LTV exceeds the liquidation threshold, the lender may liquidate (sell) the collateral to recover the loan. Most Bitcoin lenders offer initial LTVs between 50% and 70%.
